Making the Consequences of Republican Corruption Stick

Data from a battleground survey of voters in competitive House districts and 2026 Senate states provide insight into how progressive officials and organizations can respond to the incoming administration and congressional majorities in the months ahead.

The Center for American Progress Action Fund and our survey partners explain in this memo that corrupt policy will be Republican officials’ weakness, while President-elect Donald Trump is currently their strength. One principle can guide messaging in response to the administration’s early actions and nominees, especially those affecting the budget and regulations: Be the outsider defending the American people, not the insider defending established practices, by focusing on specific failures and the consequences of corruption and cronyism.
Key findings from Upswing Research are included in this presentation, and further detail is accessible in these banners.

The positions of American Progress, and our policy experts, are independent, and the findings and conclusions presented are those of American Progress alone.
