If Trump had acted quickly, countless lives could have been saved
The first U.S. coronavirus case was confirmed on January 20. Instead of immediately operationalizing the Defense Production Act to produce critical medical supplies, Trump wasted two months tweeting and lying about the “great” job his administration is doing. See for yourself.
Meanwhile, more than 3,700 Americans have died, confirmed COVID-19 cases have skyrocketed to over 183,000, and medical professionals are begging for the supplies they need to keep their patients—and themselves—alive.
Instead of showing leadership through a federal response, Trump sided with big corporations and let states engage in a bidding war for scarce resources like ventilators and personal protective equipment. It’s long past time for Trump to use the DPA fully and immediately to ensure that medical personnel on the front lines have what they so desperately need.
Hundreds of thousands of American lives are on the line. We are losing time.
