Democracy, and all that it entails, has been a cornerstone of what it means to be an American for centuries. Since the earliest days of this country, people have fought to ensure that this ideal is accessible to everyone in the United States, not just the privileged few. In recent years, however, we have seen renewed attacks on voting rights and unprecedented efforts to sabotage elections. We have the policy tools at our disposal to secure U.S. democracy and build the kind of multiracial democracy embedded in the initial promise of this country, but Congress must act now and pass legislation sitting in the Senate. Over the coming weeks, the Center for American Progress Action Fund will hold a series of events highlighting what is at stake and the need for immediate congressional action.
On January 12, please join the Center for American Progress Action Fund for a conversation between Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) and CAP Action CEO Patrick Gaspard. They will focus on how the freedom to vote and the integrity of our elections are being attacked in Montana and across the country and discuss what the Senate can do to protect voting access and free elections for every American. A longtime proponent of voting rights, Sen. Tester has been a critical voice in the Senate pushing for a path forward in securing U.S. democracy.
