Summary

American Progress is seeking a fall 2024 facilities intern who is highly motivated, organized, and detail oriented. The selected candidate will support the Office Services team on a variety of projects, including supporting the effective monitoring and maintenance of American Progress’ physical space, equipment, fixtures, and appliances. This individual will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service through a variety of facilities-related and front desk tasks that will include but not be limited to: greeting and directing visitors and guests; answering and redirecting phone calls; setting up conference rooms; supporting internal moves; relocating furniture and performing light furniture repairs; stocking and maintaining supply inventory; and processing and distributing mail.

This internship will provide the individual opportunities to gain real-world experience by working on a wide range of projects in an office environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Interim Director of Office Services to learn about day-to-day operations.
  • Help maintain and set up conference rooms and meeting spaces.
  • Assist in supporting internal moves and workspace setup.
  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining operability of kitchen appliances and equipment.
  • Learn about the organization’s office management.
  • Support security efforts by activating and deactivating access cards and updating visitor and day pass access card logs.
  • Maintain orderly appearance of common areas and spaces.
  • Support emergency preparedness efforts.
  • Support meeting coordination for private meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements and qualifications:

  • Current pursuance of an associate, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree, or a recent graduate within six months of their graduation date.
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and seek direction as needed.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook applications.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and follow up on projects to ensure their completion.
  • Ability to diagnose problems and identify creative solutions.
  • Commitment to American Progress’ mission and goals.

American Progress interns are paid at the Washington, D.C., minimum wage rate of $17.50 per hour and receive paid time off for applicable holidays. Candidates from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

Interns are expected to be available to work from and commute to American Progress’ Washington, D.C., office at least three days per week, with five days per week preferred.
