Summary

American Progress seeks applicants for its research assistant resume bank to be considered for upcoming research assistant positions. This resume bank allows candidates to express interest in future opportunities to support American Progress' research and policy development efforts. Research assistants play a critical role in driving American Progress’ agenda by providing essential research, data analysis, and policy recommendations. Research assistants join teams that support work across American Progress’ five crosscutting priorities:

  • Building an economy for all
  • Restoring social trust in democracy
  • Advancing racial equity and justice
  • Tackling climate change and environmental injustice
  • Strengthening health

Responsibilities (sample duties may include): 

  • Conducting research on key policy areas, including economic policy, climate action, racial justice, and health care reform.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing data to support policy briefs and reports.
  • Assisting in drafting research reports, memos, and other publications.
  • Collaborating with policy experts to develop and refine policy recommendations.
  • Monitoring news, academic research, and legislative developments relevant to American Progress’ priorities.
  • Supporting cross-departmental collaboration on research-related projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements and qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, economics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least one year of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to interpret and distill complex data into clear and concise formats.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Familiarity with research databases and statistical tools.
  • Commitment to American Progress’ mission and values.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
