Summary

American Progress has an immediate opening for a Senior Policy and Program Manager in its Global Progress Action Initiative. Global Progress Action, an initiative of the Center for American Progress Action Fund, is an international incubator for innovative strategies and ideas on a global scale, engaging with leaders, thinkers, and policymakers. The initiative explores how, together, we can overcome obstacles, advance policy solutions, govern thoughtfully, and shape thriving and inclusive societies.

The Senior Policy and Program Manager will help Global Progress Action advance and further develop workstreams tied to these organizational priorities, including through the coordination of policy working groups, producing content and events to elevate and align international leadership goals and policy outcomes.

The Senior Policy and Program Manager will support Global Progress Action’s leadership, network members, and partners through high-quality operational and policy work. They will coordinate, convene, and advance policy working group goals, processes, and products. This professional will develop and write policy products, assist in outreach, prepare and staff policy leaders, coordinate internally and externally on key policy issues, and produce content for publication. 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage Global Progress Action’s policy working groups and products.
  • Conduct and support original research and analysis.
  • Develop and manage high-quality written products for publication, including reports, rapid-response statements, social media posts, issue briefs, digital content, columns, and op-eds.
  • Advance regional expansion goals through tracking, research, and analysis.
  • Coordinate and plan digital and in-person meetings, seminars, roundtables, and events.
  • Serve as the operational liaison between Global Progress Action and American Progress and multinational leadership initiatives.
  • Lead digital and editorial communications efforts and processes.
  • Manage projects, research, and staff as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in politics, government, international relations, history, or other relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least six years of professional experience working on relevant issues.
  • Strong management skills.
  • Ability to communicate with diverse policy audiences, including senior government officials, congressional staff, journalists, and the general public.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and on a team.
  • Experience in government, nonprofit organization, or civil society organization is a plus.
  • Direct international field and/or government service experience is a plus.
  • Ability to perform under tight deadlines and manage many moving pieces and concurrent projects.
  • Ability to travel internationally.
  • Experience in planning for and supporting international delegations and senior leadership.
