Cindy Murphy-Tofig is the director of editorial at American Progress. She enjoys working with experts and writers to develop engaging content that brings clarity to the challenges facing society and offers possible solutions.
Prior to joining American Progress, she was a principal associate and deputy copy desk chief at The Pew Charitable Trusts. At Pew, she also served as a content editor for the preventing ocean plastics and conservation Canada projects and managed the “Return on Investment” feature in Pew’s Trust magazine. Murphy-Tofig began her career as a journalist and held editing, reporting, and leadership roles at three major metropolitan newspapers: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Hartford Courant, and Newsday. She also was a senior editor at Applause, a magazine published by the Music Center at Strathmore.
Murphy-Tofig is a native of the Bronx, New York, yet somehow grew up a Mets fan. She has a bachelor’s degree in English literature and rhetoric from Binghamton University.
