Greta Bedekovics is the associate director of Democracy Policy at American Progress. Prior to joining American Progress, she worked on Capitol Hill as a policy adviser on the U.S. Senate Committee on Rules and Administration for Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN). As a policy adviser for the committee, Bedekovics worked extensively on voting rights, election security and administration, and democracy legislation—including the Freedom to Vote Act and the For the People Act. Bedekovics also worked in the Senate to advance policies to counter election-related misinformation and disinformation, such as foreign influence campaigns; prevent election subversion; increase transparency for online political spending; and improve media literacy. In 2019, she co-authored a provision of the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act, which authorized the creation of the Foreign Malign Influence Center at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
Prior to working in the Senate, Bedekovics worked on federal and state campaigns; completed a fellowship at a nongovernmental organization based outside of Nairobi, Kenya, that focused on women’s empowerment and education; and conducted ethnographic research for a democratic decision-making app project based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Bedekovics has been quoted and her work has been included in a wide range of media outlets including The Washington Post, The Atlantic, Politico, Fox News, and many local newspapers. She earned her bachelor’s degrees in anthropology and political economy from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a naturalized citizen and grew up in the United States and Hungary.
