Rachael Eisenberg is the managing director of Rights and Justice at American Progress, where she leads the organization’s efforts to shrink the footprint of the criminal justice system and create meaningful alternatives that advance racial justice and community safety. Eisenberg comes to American Progress with broad expertise in criminal justice, juvenile justice, and reentry work. Prior to joining American Progress, Eisenberg served as the director of the Office of Criminal Justice for the city of Philadelphia. In that role, she oversaw the city’s efforts to advance equity and accountability in the criminal justice system by fostering meaningful community engagement, increasing early diversion and deflection, and safely reducing the local jail population. Prior to her role with the city of Philadelphia, Eisenberg worked on reentry and juvenile justice policy efforts within the local court and public defender systems. She earned her J.D. from Temple University Beasley School of Law and holds a bachelor’s in psychology from Cornell University.
