Sam Ricketts is a senior fellow for Energy and Environment at American Progress. He focuses on bringing the lessons of state climate policy leadership to Washington, D.C., and ensuring the federal government empowers continued state and local climate progress. He is a co-founder and partner at S2 Strategies, and he co-founded and was previously head of policy for the climate advocacy organization Evergreen Action. Sam is a former longtime adviser to Gov. Jay Inslee (D), including serving for five years in the Washington state governor’s office and leading climate policy and strategy for Inslee’s 2020 presidential campaign. Between 2009 and 2012, he was the first executive director of the congressional Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC). Ricketts hails from Seattle; is a graduate of Syracuse University; and now lives in Washington, D.C., with his wife and two children.
