Washington, D.C. — Earlier this year, several medical doctors published a peer-reviewed study in the medical journal JAMA Internal Medicine that produced an estimate of the number of rape-induced pregnancies in the 14 states with full abortion bans that were implemented after the reversal of Roe v. Wade. The study measured the time between each state’s implementation of its ban and January 2024 in order to produce a cumulative number of rape-induced pregnancies resulting from Trump total abortion bans (nearly 65,000).
A new CAP Action analysis of the data from this study calculates the rate of rape-induced pregnancies per day, finding that an estimated 134 rape-induced pregnancies occur daily in the same 14 states.
“Donald Trump’s abortion bans are forcing survivors of physical and emotional trauma to carry pregnancies against their own will,” said Will Ragland, vice president of research at CAP Action. “It is unconscionable that Trump continues to boast about overturning Roe v. Wade when more and more women are being forced into this untenable reality.”
