RELEASE: Clean Energy Drives Economic Opportunity for the Middle Class

Washington, D.C. — A new analysis from the Center for American Progress Action Fund shows how the clean energy sector leads job growth compared with the overall economy, and it directly contributes to lowering costs for Americans.

The analysis explains how the Biden-Harris administration’s investments in clean energy provide an engine of economic opportunity for middle-class Americans. Among the impacts of these investments:

  • Households are projected to save up to $2,000 in energy costs annually per household by 2035.
  • Clean energy jobs grew at twice the rate of employment in the overall economy in 2023.
  • On average, clean energy workers earn higher wages compared with all workers nationally, exceeding national averages by up to 19 percent.
  • Jobs in solar and wind energy generation, in particular, pay 50 percent to 60 percent more than the median wages for all occupations.
  • Unionization rates in clean energy have surpassed the average rate in the energy sector, meaning that more clean energy workers are gaining access to better wages and benefits.

The renaissance in clean energy manufacturing is already driving economic opportunities and demonstrating how the clean energy economy will play a fundamental role in building a strong, stable, and prosperous future by lowering costs and creating jobs accessible to everyone.
