STATEMENT: CAP Action’s Patrick Gaspard Praises Trudeau’s Inspiring Dedication to the People of Canada

Washington, D.C. — Today, after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his intent to resign, Patrick Gaspard, CEO of the Center for American Progress Action Fund, issued the following statement:

Prime Minister Trudeau will leave office as a stalwart ally of the United States and a champion of equality and democracy. He worked diligently to bolster the middle class through affordable child care policies, pay equity, universal dental care, affordable housing, and more. Trudeau has been a leader in the fight against climate change, pushing Canada and all of North America to innovate and aspire on the issue. And he deftly navigated his country through the COVID-19 crisis and remained a steadfast supporter of Ukraine’s stand against Russian aggression.

We thank him for his support for CAP Action’s international work and programming, including as a keynote speaker at the 2023 and 2024 Global Progress Action summits, where he looked back at progressive wins over the past decade and called on policy leaders around the world to defend democracy, advance progressive governance, and bolster new ideas. Prime Minister Trudeau leaves an inspiring legacy of service to the people of Canada and allyship to the progressive movement around the world.
