STATEMENT: In Pursuit of Power, Trump and Vance Double Down on False 2020 Election Claims

Washington, D.C. — Today, former President Donald Trump and Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) both falsely claimed that the former president won the 2020 election. Navin Nayak, president and executive director of the Center for American Progress Action Fund, released the following statement:

Americans have already seen that Donald Trump is willing to lie, stoke violence, and overturn elections in his own pursuit of power, and today’s admission from JD Vance is just further proof that he’d do the same if it advances his political career. This willingness to silence Americans’ voices in our political process is exactly why a broad coalition of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents are putting their differences aside and country first by endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris—and it’s a warning of the broader democratic dismantling Trump and Vance may pursue through their Project 2025 agenda if elected.
